What is W7 ?
The Women 7 (W7) has been an official engagement group of the G7 Summit since 2018 (Canada). Civil society organisations come together to promote proposals on gender equality and women’s rights to governments within the Group 7 (G7) process. Building on feminist principles of intersectionality and inclusion, the W7 brings together feminist organisations, and women’s rights advocacy groups not only from the G7 countries but also from around the world committed to women’s and girls’ rights. Its objective is to ensure that G7 leaders adopt concrete political and financial commitments that lead to a tangible, lasting and transformative impact on women and girls’ lives everywhere.
Host of W7
The Women7 host rotates on an annual basis along with the G7 presidencies. At the turn of the year 2022 to 2023, the W7 presidency thus passed from Germany to Japan
W7 Japan
W7 Japan is hosted by the Gender Unit of the Japan Civil Society Network on SDGs (SDGs Japan). It comprises various feminist organizations at the national levels, thus the momentum towards gender equality is expected to increase. The W7 Japan Steering Committee consists of 12 members from the Japanese Civil Society Organisations.
Together with over 90 Advisors from the world, W7 Japan will draft the W7 Communique to feed feminists’ voices into the G7 process and hand it over to the chair at the W7 Summit.
