W7 Japan advocates for a safer and inclusive digital world for women and girls

Ahead of the Women7 (W7) Japan Summit, the W7 Japan Steering Committee released the W7 Statement on ‘Women Transforming the Digital World: Safer and Inclusive with Prosperity for All’ in response to the current and rapidly accelerating digital transformation and what it may mean for women and girls in all their diversity. This W7 Statement was drafted through the collaboration of a specially appointed Taskforce, the Japan Steering Committee, and all W7 Japan Advisors.

In alignment with the themes of the 2023 Commission on the Status of Women (CSW67) on ‘Innovation and Technological Change, Education in the Digital Age, and Progress Toward Gender Equality’, this W7 Statement highlights the particular risks for women and girls in all their diversity to be excluded from the benefits of digital work, technology, and AI; and the urgent need for regulation, coordinated intervention, and a gender-responsive and intersectional approach to technology. The Women7 (W7) recommends the following actions:
