“Time to deliver!” is the motto of the international summit of the civil society group Women7 (W7). Chaired by the National Council of German Women’s Organizations, representatives of feminist organizations and advocacy groups from around the world will meet on May 24 and 25, 2022 to handover their policy demands to German Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz. The goal: to firmly anchor gender equality in the G7 negotiations.
In April, after several months of consultations, the W7 Dialogue had already agreed on a joint final declaration with concrete gender equality policy recommendations to the G7. Dr. Beate von Miquel, President of Deutscher Frauenrat (the National Council on German Women’s Organizations), explains:
“The W7 Summit marks the preliminary culmination of the Women7 civil society dialogue. Together we want to make clear: We have no time to lose. We demand concrete commitments: equal participation and representation of women, girls, and disadvantaged groups in decision-making processes. The application of gender-responsive budgetary policies and investment in gender-based, intersectional approaches to data collection are key measures for serious implementation of gender equality policy goals. The Chancellor’s participation in the W7 Summit is therefore an important signal.”
In addition to the Chancellor, the W7 Summit will also welcome Lisa Paus, Federal Minister Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth, Dr. Anna Lührmann, Minister of State for Europe and Climate at the Federal Foreign Office, Jennifer Lee Morgan, Special Envoy for International Climate Action at the Federal Foreign Office, Delphine O, Ambassador and Secretary General of the Generation Equality Forum, as well as other high-level guests and civil society representatives of the W7 Network for several panel discussions. The two-day event will take place in a hybrid format in Berlin. Please register here and download the full agenda here.
