PRESS RELEASE | Deutscher Frauenrat and Women7 call for commitment to feminist development and health policies

18. Mai 2022 |

As of today, the G7 development ministers are meeting in Berlin. On Thursday, the G7 health ministers will meet for a technical exchange. As the organizer of the civil society dialogue of women’s associations, Women7 (W7), the National Council of German Women’s Organizations, Deutscher Frauenrat, calls on the G7 to anchor the goal of gender equality as a cross-cutting issue in the negotiations. Dr. Beate von Miquel, President of the Deutscher Frauenrat, states:

“G7 development and health ministers must advocate for feminist development and health policies that promote gender equality as an overarching principle in meaningful collaboration with civil society.”

In a statement, the W7 call for all international cooperation projects to contribute to gender equality, with at least 20 percent of the budget going to projects that primarily target gender equity. Equal access to health services, including sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) for women, girls and non-binary people, increased collaboration with women’s associations and feminist civil society organizations, and the promotion of the rights of BIPOC, LGBTIQ* communities and other groups facing marginalization and systemic discrimination are also key demands of the W7 to G7 governments.

Women7 is an official engagement group of the G7 and this year gathers over 60 representatives of feminist organizations and advocacy groups from 24 countries. The National Council of German Women’s Organizations is hosting the Women7 Dialogue during the German G7 Presidency.
