Atsuko Miwa

Director, Asia-Pacific Human Rights Information Centre Co-Chair, Japan Civil Society Network on SDGs (SDGs Japan)

Formerly an officer at the International Division of the Japanese Red Cross Society, a Programme Officer at the Bangkok Office of the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UN Women currently), and a researcher at Kyoto Human Rights Research Institute, she has extensive experience on working for projects and programmes for gender equality and the empowerment of women especially in Asia, and has been researching and writing extensively in the field of gender, development, and human rights for years.  Her publication includes ”Engendering the Judiciary – Lessons from the Philippines” in Shultz U. et al. (ed.) Gender and Judging (2013) Hart Publishing Ltd.

She was a member of the drafting committee for Japan National Action Plan (NAP) of the UN Security Council Resolution No.1325 on Women, Peace, and Security.  She served as Co-Chair of C20 (Civil 20) on the occasion of G20 Osaka Summit in 2019. She participated in W7 (Women 7) in 2018 (Canada), 2019 (France), and 2021 (UK), and served as an advisor for W7 Germany in 2022. She is also Vice President of the Japan National Committee for UN Women.
