Hiromi Kusano

Advocacy Officer, JOICFP (Japanese Organization for International Organization in Family Planning)

Hiromi works on advocacy utilizing the UN Human Rights Council’s mechanism to improve the status of SRHR and gender equality in Japan. She also serves as the secretariat for the SRHR Youth Alliance, a youth led advocacy group that seeks to improve and raise awareness of the issues surrounding SRHR in Japan through policy advocacy. Prior to joining JOICFP in 2019, she oversaw a psycho-social support project for the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake survivors as a part of Lend Lease Japan’s CSR activities for 5 years.

Hiromi holds a MA in Gender and Peacebuilding from UN mandated University for Peace (Costa Rica), a MA in Global Politics from Ateneo de Manila University (the Philippines), and a MA in International Studies from University of Sheffield (UK).
She is also an assistant instructor of the ESD Global’s Women’s Empowerment Self -Defense.
