International Adviser, Soroptimist International

Pat Black is a long time activist for gender equality, both in the UK and internationally. A strong advocate for women’s human rights working for Soroptimist International to advance the status of women. A professional background in education has enhanced her view that education is so often the key to empowerment for women and girls, allowing them to find their own voice. Pat works through UNA UN House Scotland with young people in the UK encouraging their interest and understanding of international issues, and engaging them in action. Also leading National Alliance of Women’s Organisations (NAWO) UK; developing the UK Civil Society Women’s Alliance at CSW, with CEDAW and other UN and EU processes; working with NAWO Young Women’s Alliance, assisting them to engage in international activities, campaigning on human rights issues affecting all women and girls.
